Games That Just Won't Die

18 posts in this topic

Age of Empires II. After a decade of inactivity it got an unofficial expansion pack Forgotten Empires and an HD remake at about the same time. Then the modders got hired and ported The Forgotten, followed by two more expansion packs and now a Definitive Edition.

I'm not totally pleased with AoE2:DE as it has way higher performance requirements, but overall it's a faithful recreation and I only have minor quibbles.

Tiddy-bits:

Source surf and bunny hop feels a TON better than CS:GO. Non intended third party game modes feel good in source to me.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I'm mainly talking about default game modes still being played, though. It makes sense for bunny hop and surfing to still exist but the fact that de is still being played is pretty puzzling.

That's probably what they said about Oblivion, and Morrowind before that. Still hasn't proven true.

This is definitely true. Each game has people who were brought onto the series with them that are absolutely dedicated to that specific release. Due to the nature of the games, players find themselves replaying the game over and over again. I've recently been playing completely vanilla Skyrim constantly. Still waiting for Skywind to release.

I started playing Skyrim in VR... vanilla for now but I'm excited to try some mods out.

Skywind is going to be epic when it finally arrives. I can't believe it's fully voiced!

So. Much. Dialogue. I really thought they'd just trim the fat but nope.

Yes... I can't argue with the fact that cs go will never die. It seems to me that this is a game for all ages. All my childhood, I played counter strike 1.6, but with the arrival of cs go, I realized that the time of cs 1.6 was over.
