After several months of negotiating with the administration of Halo Maps, the world’s leading Halo modding forum, this has been a very difficult endeavor, but we are finally happy to announce that the forum and domain are being purchased, and this deal is effective this midnight GMT on April 2nd.

 

What does this mean for you?

 

Everything will still operate the same as before, except under new management. You will retain your ranks (Regular, Editor, etc.) and the raffle system will operate the same as before. All of the posts will continue to exist as before, albeit with a new child-friendly censor replacing all profanity with *blam*. We hope this will bring an even bigger online community to the forefront of Halo modding without having to worry about offending anyone.

 

What does this mean for Open Carnage?

 

The site will continue to operate at full capacity. Everything will still exist as it always has, but with the same modern innovations present on the Halo Maps forum with the inclusion of the Halo Maps community, plus we won't have to worry about expansion anymore.

 

One of the biggest changes will be to our downloading system. All downloads, whether attached to posts or directly uploaded to the site, will have a 25 second wait time and speeds will be capped at a generous 768 KB per second. This will not only reduce CPU usage on browsers by a significant amount but also ensure a more fair downloading experience for all users.

 

Our staff system will also receive an overhaul. There will be no need for Administrators or Managers once we have finished our transition. The entire administration will be condensed to one group: Moderators.

 

We will also have an entire section dedicated to the rules, which we will also overhaul our existing rules to make our community a friendly and informative environment. Not only will we restrict profanity, but we will also restrict images to 1024x768 and prevent all images from being used in signatures, which should allow people who are sensitive to profanity or are still on legacy 56k modems to be able to connect to our website. This will give us a significant improvement in traffic and broaden our community.

 

Also, we will have a new feature that will make editing posts much more apparent by including the “Edited by” message automatically appended to the post itself, which should help you know how many times a post was edited. To demonstrate to you the new changes, we have enabled this feature on this topic. Feel free to try it out yourself.

 

In addition to this, and this is perhaps the biggest change of them all: the site name will have to be changed. We have collaborated together on two possible candidates for names, but we can’t decide as we felt both names were equally amazing, so we want YOU to decide for us. Your two choices are Open Maps and Halo Carnage, and the poll will close midnight GMT.

You may have already noticed the first groundbreaking change, in which the sidebar was moved from the right, to the left. This will improve the forum in ways too numerous to express, but you're welcome!

I can't add the option without discussing it with Halo Maps administration. However, that's not to say that it can't be the new name if enough people actually want it. We listen to all of our members' concerns.
