Posted February 21 Spoiler Don Omar - Dile ("Tell Him") I was 7 years old when this dropped. It changed me. I didn't truly feel tied to the genre of Reggaeton, which is a mashup of dancehall, hip-hop and reggae, until this album in 2003 by Puerto Rican singer/rapper Don "El Rey" ("The King") Omar came onto the scene. This song in particular is one of his most famous songs of the album. The "Gasolina" before Gasolina. Every aspect of this song fascinates me like no other Reggaeton song since then. Heavy African drums following the smooth vocals of Don Omar with a supporting guitar and electric synths with a booming repeating bass bring back memories of family dancing to this club hit even in house parties where everyone had to dance to the beat, a "slave to the rhythm". The song deals with "The King" meeting and falling in love with a beautiful woman at the club, who was on her night out with friends seeking her latest victim. The King had met his match. Checkmate. He proceeds to court and dance with her towards a fiery and passionate night at her home but where he thinks there's more to their story, he follows her to her dinner with her boyfriend and seeks to expose their passionate night so she would choose between him or her boyfriend, she proceeds to ignore and block him from her phone as she prefers to keep appearances with her current boyfriend despite her known dealings with other men. But at the phone booth (remember those?) he comes to his senses and leaves her alone despite having followed her prior to publicly confront her boyfriend to win her over. The shit I myself have seen at clubs or heard about... Live to see another heartbreak I guess.... Favorite lyrics: Otra, otra noche, otra ("Another, another night, another!")
