Food Adventures

I'm Filipino (well I'm American technically because I was born in New Hampshire and have lived here most of my life and don't plan on becoming a citizen in any other country but my parents were both born in the Philippines) so what I mention probably won't sound weird to other Filipinos but to some other cultures... it may sound strange.

 

Some of the more strange food I've eaten:
 

Dinuguan - Usually contains some kind of meat (kidney, heart, ears, whatever isn't typically used as primary meat) cooked in pig blood.  I've heard it's similar to the English delicacy blood pudding but I haven't had a chance to try that (yet). 

 

Balut - Hard boiled Duckling Egg - I used to eat these like crazy as a kid.  My mom didn't mind because I was extremely picky to the point of being malnourished that she just gave me whatever I did want to eat.  I tried to eat one of these as an adult but I did not feel good afterwards and apparently I do not have the stomach to eat the hairy duckling anymore.

 

Adobong Ulo - A soy sauce/vinegar dish featuring chicken heads.  I was a weird kid. lol I don't think I can eat a chicken head now as adult either.

 

Lengua - beef tongue...another food that I probably won't eat again.  It just didn't taste very good to me it was almost too gummy-like, besides apparently it's very high in fat.

I like beef tongue, personally. I've had it in a few different dishes and it is chewy. There is a taco place in Santa Barbara where you can get cow tongue, eyeball, and some other parts as the meat in your taco. It's pretty good and super cheap.

Venison, Squirrel, rattlesnake, rabbit, pheasant, Fla. Wild Boar, Canadien Goose, Fla. Gator (wild&farm raised), frog legs. The wild boar is my favorite, smoked w/ bbq sauce.
