Dentist - you know you love 'em

14 posts in this topic

My daughter (8 yrs) has just had her final visit to the dentist these school holidays and has now learned that keeping up with oral hygiene is important.  She had to have 2 pulled as the adult teeth didn't push the baby teeth out as they came came through too far back.  Enduring 2 needles to do so she didn't flinch.  She is about 2 years behind in the growth of her teeth, this being a plus as, in my opinion, more time to learn to care for her adult ones and damage done now will grow out.  Two major cavities in her upper molars couldn't be left untreated so an hour in the chair for them to be cleaned and filled, again she didn't batter and eyelid.  She is so precious <3

I love the dentist, guess it has had a positive influence on my kids (all of them don't mind going).

Tiddy-bits:

Of the only two cavities I've ever had to have filled, they both had to be redone multiple times within the same 6 months because they caused excruciating pain. I eventually gave up and just live with not being able to eat on the left side of my mouth, because they say the fillings look perfect; there's not any damage being done. The kicker is that it wasn't just one dentist that this happened with. They've said I should go see a fancy specialist, but that costs a lot of money.

Dentists are pure evil.

Oddly, this is familiar to you... as if from an old dream.

I need a few (like 2 or 4) tiny tiny cavities filled on my Premolars.

Fuck wisdom teeth. 3 of mine are tilted outwards towards my cheeks, causing me to bite myself bloody pretty often, and get sores. One of my wisdom teeth is pointed the completely wrong direction (90 degrees forward, so it's pointing towards my front, right into my other molars). I suffered for a whole year getting those fuckers grown out, and they didn't do it right.

I only had 3 of 4 wisdom teeth, still have 2 in my jaw causing no issues and the other erupted and caused a stinky, decaying odour, so it was pulled in the dentist chair.  Apart from the sound and the pressure I had very little pain.

Honestly, and this is gonna sound like a joke, make sure your dentist isn't Jewish. I can't tell you the number of threads I've seen on the internet saying that. People have talked about how they were told they had 6 cavities that needed filled, but they went and saw another dentist and were told everything's fine.

I've got an Indian dentist and she's done a great job.

All four of my wisdom teeth were removed; they didn't give me enough drugs to make me high, just unconscious, and the drugs tasted like crap. I've also had two fillings for cavities.

When I was a kid I did shit all for taking care of my teeth.  I only ever had one cavity to be filled, since then I only have minor gum bleeding but I've just about kicked that by flossing at least occasionally.

Last week I went on a trip to my Aunt and Uncle's hometown in MA, to get an orthodontic evaluation and a thorough dental cleaning. I'm about to have braces for two and a half years, but holy shit that cleaning was painful. This may sound gross, but I had like, 3 years of plaque and tarter built up, and the dentist who was cleaning it was merciless. Supposedly three years ago I was told I had a cavity, but I don't really feel it or anything.

I recently had a very similar experience. I've had filings before with no problems, but I just had a few done over the past couple months and had lots of sensitvity and some pain when chewing something hard. They redid a couple and still not much luck...

My son had his wisdom teeth taken out while in the army, he was supposed to deploy to Afghanistan at the time and was told he had to have them removed before he went.

I know medical care while in the military is free but he showed me pictures of the teeth after being pulled and it looked like the dentist (and I used the term loosely) had done the job with a pneumatic chipping gun.
