UKRAINE-RUSSIA UPDATE!!!

US State Dept. reporting Russian Military Forces inside of Russia now shelling Ukrainian Forces in Ukraine. This isn't Separatists, this is the actual Russian Military now shelling over the border into Ukraine, in conjunction with Separatists shelling.

This is not good. This escalates this from a simple "Proxy Conflict" to an actual shooting war between Ukraine and Russia...and Ukraine will NOT win. Russia will now be able to bring the full weight of it's military force. I will not be surprised if we see Russian T-80's and T-90's roll over into Ukraine by next week, they have an obscene amount of armor alone....22,000 total inventory last DoD report. We (US) come in a trailing third, behind China. with 8,000 total inventory.

Oh wow. Now it's not just giving them weapons and support, it's full on attacks. I certainly hope Russia doesn't invade Ukraine; it could start a lot more than just a war between the two.

Same here, the world is crazy as it is, that would just push it over the top.

Sure you've got most of the command echelons that were apart of the old Red Army and they believe very deeply in the ideals of the old Soviet Union and it's leaders (Putin is a big hit because he is former KGB). Then you have the standard Russian conscript that, with luck, has a basic education, but outside of state media Pravda, RT, ect... hasn't the slightest clue what is really going on. So either by lack in infrastructure/education or by design, Russian military personnel are what in the US Military is known as KITD-FOHS (Kept In The Dark-Fed Only Horse Shit).

One major issue with the Russian Military is that they're very, very well armed, but alcoholism (by US standards) is a big problem in their military, as is insubordination, and varying degrees of belief and loyalty. The one constant is that we know that 100% of Russian soldiers believe one thing and that's in Mother Russia.

To them it doesn't matter if Ukraine is a sovereign nation state, they do what is thought to be the best for Mother Russia. They do what they're told by their commanders. Unfortunately, 99% of the world had this fluffy idea that because the Soviet Union "collapsed" that Communism would just disappear on it's own from the borders of Russia. What we're witnessing is a Capitalist economy, controlled through a form of Communist Democracy, with a low education populace, that has for the most part be left to the devices of the better educated and power greedy who have no issue with using violence to gain control.

Communism!=Actually happened

Your looking for Socialism, Communism(Classless, Stateless, Money-less social order) has never been achieved. And I highly doubt Russia will ever go the Socialist route ever again. Not with the kingpins hanging around making a pretty penny after the '91 collapse. State Capitalism a la Stalin, is a possibility.

I'm talking about the real world definition of communism (Leninism), not the academic "true communism" (Marxism). The Bolsheviks killed off the Mensheviks, so they got to write the book on communism.

The Russian kingpins making fat stacks where making fat stacks before the Soviet Union was dissolved, just now the stacks are bigger.

We'd see the adoption of socialism/communism in Russia again if the world sustained a significant economic meltdown.

Welp. RIP Ukraine

It may be RIP a lot of other places as well. In today's day and age, nothing stays between two people, unfortunately.

#USA Military reactivates Cold War readiness protocols against #Russia http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/dempse...ry?id=24713043 … #Ukraine #Poland

As American officials fire of diplomatic salvos at Russia in response to that nation’s purported actual artillery salvos into Ukraine, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said recently that among other actions, the U.S. military is dusting off decades-old plans, just in case.

“We’re looking inside our own readiness models to look at things that we haven’t had to look at for 20 years, frankly, about basing and lines of communication and sea lanes,” Gen. Martin Dempsey, America’s top military officer, said at the Aspen Security Forum Thursday evening. “What the military does when faced with these crises is – our job is preparedness, deterrence and readiness.”

In addition to its own plans, Dempsey said the U.S. military is having “conversations with our NATO allies about increasing their capability and readiness” and that there’s a “very active” ongoing process and debate about how best to provide support to Ukraine.

“I wouldn't misinterpret my presence here today sitting with you… We’re not sitting still,” Dempsey said.

Dempsey said Russia’s actions in Ukraine signaled a significant “change in the relationship of the U.S. and Russia,” but said America’s first instinctual response to Russian aggression should be to look at NATO and the role it played against the Soviets a half century ago.

“That’s why NATO was created… to increase stability, offset Soviet aggression at the time, but maintain a stable Europe. And we’ve been successful at that for 60 years,” Dempsey said. “So the first step here is to have that conversation in the halls of NATO while recognizing the change and taking stock in ourselves – in our capabilities, in our readiness, in our deterrent capabilities.”

Dempsey’s comments came just hours after U.S. officials accused Russia of firing artillery rounds into eastern Ukraine from Russian territory, a move a Pentagon official called a “clear escalation” of the conflict and Russia’s alleged hand in it.

Beyond Russia’s intentions in Ukraine, Dempsey said he also feared that Russian President Vladimir Putin could be in danger of “light[ing] a fire that he loses control of” by stoking a potentially “quite dangerous” strain of nationalism in Europe.

Last week a Malaysian Airlines plane crashed in eastern Ukraine, killing nearly 300 travelers. Shortly after, the Ukrainian government produced a bevy of evidence suggesting pro-Russian rebels had downed the plane with a sophisticated surface-to-air missile that Ukraine claims was provided by Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin in turn blamed the Ukrainian government and the west for escalating the conflict and pledged that Russia would do “everything it its power” to facilitate an investigation into the Malaysia Airlines tragedy.

Prior to the plane crash, the Ukrainian government and American officials accused Moscow of secretly sending commandos into eastern Ukraine to foment instability. For instance, one of the rebel’s military leaders, Ukraine says, is actually a former Russian intelligence agent from Moscow

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - The European Union said on Saturday it had imposed asset freezes on a number of top Russian officials, including the chiefs of Russia's FSB security service and foreign intelligence service.

Alexander Bortnikov, head of the FSB, and Mikhail Fradkov, head of the foreign intelligence service, were among 15 Russians or Ukrainians and 18 companies and other organisations named in the latest sanctions list published in the EU's Official Journal.

Oh lord I hope this doesn't go anywhere. The last thing we need is for the United States to stick their hand in that conflict...

Recheck my post, Russia isn't fucking around.
