World Machine - Terrain Editor and Model Generator

It's so so beautiful, but like Kva said those polys. Without serious serious manual editing, I highly doubt running it through any optimizing algorithms would be enough to get the poly's down to Halo-BSP levels.

Not to say it's not incredibly useful for other games, as it obviously is.

Reminds me of Terragen (plus a host of similar programs). I can't see any use for it when it comes to Halo mapping though.

I hadn't noticed World Machine's mesh output device before. I've been using heightmap output & Bryce.

 

My basic edition WM's Mesh Output device makes a regular grid, whatever the mesh type. Same as using a displace modifier in 3ds on a plane. I recommend using heightmap output instead and then Bryce's adaptive triangulation

You can specify how many polys you want the mesh to have, in both WM's mesh out and Bryce.

Regarding manual editing, a mesh made with Bryce doesn't require alot to get in-game.
