My budget Gaming Rig

Hello everyone and a Happy New Year!!

This my first review and I hope you enjoy it.

So I decided to make a budget gaming Pc.

First I bought a R9 270X GPU Windforce (yes I am a ATI [now AMD] fanboy) from Gigabyte (219.99 $).

I will write the US value of these products.

The APU A8-6600K from AMD was the CPU of my choice. Its a quad Richland core on 32nm.

(119.00 $)

The motherboard is a ASROCK FM2A75 PRO4+ (74.49 $)

HyperX BLU DDR3 4GB x 2 1600 the RAM (94.99 $)

My case and PSU are the same with my previous build. Thermaltake Strike MX (about 70 $) and a Corsair VX550 (about 90 $). I used my faithful Western Digital 1T Disk drive.

My first surprise was that I got a limited edition of Battlefield 4 Edition of my 270X card (a mistake? I really don’t fucking care!) with the same money. YES!

Windforce 3 x fans are great for cooling the 270X but makes it a big ass card. It’s huge.

I used a sledgehammer to put it in my case with great success. (OK..no but it was difficult).

Overclocked from the factory at 1100MHZ and quiet.

Motherboard, APU and RAM was straight forward. The fan was easy to install too. (yes I love bigass fans. Problem?)

I started it up and to my surprise it opened up without problems. (most times things are going totally wrong)

In the UEFI bios the base clock of the APU was 3.9GHZ. (cool!)

Temps were OK and I tested the RAMs.

It was time to install Windows 8.1 pro 64bit. (Linux Mint 16 in an another disk)

Installation was quick and without a hick. With drivers in place it was for me time do to some some benchmarks. (This was done in a 1280 x1024 monitor at work)

OK, not bad at all.

Now lets crank this motherf@cker up!!!

Steady APU @4.7 Ghz and GPU @1250 Mhz!

Now lets benchmark it again.

Well, smack my ass and call me Judy!

Great overclocking on air!!

But beware! The system drains about 360 to 400 Watts on load. Be sure if you want to try this at home that you have a good PSU!

That’s all from me right now. Any questions? I will happy to answer them.

Happy new Year!

Tiddy-bits:

I've done a few builds very similar to this and they've turned out fantastic for the price. AMD APU's have been my go-to choice for most budget builds.

Thanks for sharing this in detail!

Oddly, this is familiar to you... as if from an old dream.

Does the APU crossfire with the 270X?

Otherwise might as well just buy an Intel imho.

That is a pretty sweet setup though, good on you for having the restraint to save up for it.

On my box says supported dual graphics combinations are with 6670 and 6570. On the internet I saw a 7750 as well.
