Something that might be worth looking into:

 

Pearl2 breaks my CE map when converted to MD.

 

After getting a windows 8 laptop, magically pearl2 started working for me. However, it's not without a particular bug.

 

When shooting a powerup (OS or Camo, both 100% default stock tags) with the Revolution sniper rifle, I get an exception, without fail, in the converted MD version of the CE map of rev_dichotomy.

 

The first thing I thought it would be is the projectile's material effects - clearly something about the sniper's projectile and the powerups' materials were messing things up. I checked through the materials, and found the materials were dirt, metal (thick), and glass. All of those elements were individually in the map, but just to be sure, I shot the powerup again, and BOOM, crashed it.

 

So I opened a LAN game on Dichotomy, and tried shooting the powerups in the original map in CE: no problem.

At this point I think I may be insane, but hey, I'll just reconvert it, second time's the charm, so I stick it into Pearl2 and convert to MD as a new build (to avoid any crazy accident), add it to Full Version, and then proceed to try it on LAN. So far so good, but BOOM, crashed again as soon as I shot the powerup. Keep in mind the original map in CE doesn't have the issue, it only appears after it's converted to MD.

 

The new sniper rifle weapon in Revolution has non-stock material effects for just about every surface possible, and none of the powerups' materials are anything crazy or new. They're 100% stock, so there's no reason it'd be their collision models, either.

 

The only variable in the equation at this point is Pearl2's conversion process - works fine in CE, doesn't crash, but after conversion to MD, I have the issue. And it's with no other weapon other than the sniper rifle, which is using some of the same material effects as the sniper, with no exception.

 

Any ideas?

He really doesn't frequent OC that often unfortunately, but a PM will get his attention.

Is the screen supposed to turn black when loading the converted map in Halo PC?

 

Yes, read the manual

 

No of course not. Please add more details though, just "black screen" isn't much to go on. What OS, running as admin, source map version, etc

Windows 7, tried both as regular user and running as admin, map is from Halo Custom Edition. I've tried converting other Halo Custom Edition maps, and they work fine.

EDIT:

Nevermind, fixed it in a hex editor. It seems when converting a map with a period in the name, it omits the period and anything after it in the map header.
