Windows 8 Impressions

Tiddy-bits:

Windows 8 has gone and made itself even more popular!

To be fair, that's the ARM version of Windows, which is really quite different. Windows RT is very different from Windows 8 Home and Windows 8 Professional, which is why it doesn't even have the "8" in its name.

Firefox will work on Windows 8, just not Windows RT.

So i downloaded the Consumer Preview (32 bit) the other day and i have to say, it runs very nicely on my shitty laptop. I wouldn't recommend it to someone whose got a decent Desktop\Laptop, but if you have a shitty laptop or desktop with say Windows Vista on (like myself), go download Windows 8 and try it out for yourself. I wasn't able to find a tutorial that worked for disabling the Metro UI (all the tutorials were for the developers preview of windows 8), but i did find a piece of software which enabled a start menu.

Now that windows 8 is only a few months away from release, has anyone else had chance to test out the public preview, and will you be upgrading?

Is that a legitimate question? Of course no one is upgrading. :P

I suppose from the gaming aspect, not many of us would upgrade to what is the inferior operating system, but it does have a few interesting features for those with touch screen monitors or tablets. I currently have the consumers preview of Windows 8 on my laptop and the only thing that annoying, is the fact that you're no longer allowed to disable the Metro interface. You were allowed to do so in the developers preview. Something that really annoys me is, once you've minimized Metro, its just Windows 7 minus the Start icon, which in my opinion they should of left it there. When you go to the bottom left hand corner, you have to wait for a small window to appear to go back to the Metro interface.

[imo]All in all, its best for web browsing, facebookers who barely know how to use a PC.[/imo]
