BSOD Problems

17 posts in this topic

For a while now, I have been getting pretty frequent bsods with the error BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER. I thought reinstalling would be a good easy fix, so I formated the hard drive then installed 64bit win7 instead of 32 bit. Less than a day after installing, the computer starts bsod'ing again with the same error. All the drivers seem to be updated, and every update has been installed. Anyone know of a fix? I've been looking around and I have tried almost all of the "fixes" that I have seen. I am running 64bit Windows 7 on an Asus k52f laptop. If anyone wants, i can upload the dump files.

Tiddy-bits:

I'm a far cry from the best tech help here, buuuuuut did you try uninstalling/disabling everything USB related in the device manager and see if it still BSODs, and if it does, with the same error?

Just in case you forgot what I told you in chat (and because skeez posting reminded me), here's what I'd suggest you do.

Step 1 - Testing the RAM:

-Take each stick of ram out.

-Stick one in at a time in bank 1. Boot into Windows and wait until (however long it takes to BSoD normally) and if it doesn't, reboot and try another stick

-Rinse wash repeat

-If all checks out, proceed to step 2.

Step 2 - Testing the slots

-Put one stick in one slot at a time after each shut down.

(ie, put in RAM in slot 1, start, if all checks out, shut down and stick RAM into Slots 1 and 2)

-Go on until all slots are full of RAM or the machine BSoDs or fails POST.

(This will tell you if the slots are bad)

-If all checks out proceed to step 3

Step 3 - Device Manager

-(I'd highly suggest doing all of this in Safemode with Networking; Press F8 at startup before Windows boot screen)

-Go into Device Manager and remove all drivers related to USB interfaces.

(They might be able to reinstall themselves correctly)

-If above doesn't work, look for the chipset version and install those chipset drivers.

(Usually either AMD, Intel or nForce)

-If above still doesn't work, check to see if you can install any special software related to any USB devices you have.

If none of those work, take a photo of the error message so I can see what else I can conjure up off the top of my head.

Can you upload your minidump? It would be a lot faster to just look at what drivers caused the fault.

---------

System timed out waiting to suspend for a suspend-port request to complete. Definitely a hardware issue. Disconnect USB devices one at a time and use the computer normally until the blue screens go away. If you cant then identify the problem device and crashes persist, your USB bus may be bad.
