  1. Apparently it's possible to force Halo to run in widescreen on the original Xbox using a few hex edits. Search for "Halo" on this page http://ps2wide.net/xbox.html

ok, this is epic. though, im being told that "ps2wide.net uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is not trusted because it is self-signed.
      Error code: MOZILLA_PKIX_ERROR_SELF_SIGNED_CERT"

  2. Dang, I had no idea Mozarilla was a thing. I've been out of the loop too long. Nice work @Moses_of_Egypt!

  3. Have y'all heard of our lord and savior Bitcoin?

  4. I wish MCC would let you choose the map you want to play on. Still haven't managed to play Danger Canyon CTF on MCC.

Yeah, I think Hang 'Em High is fun but games tend to drag on, especially CTF.

I used to love it until I realized how flawed it is. I really wish they'd put the Halo 1.5 maps in MCC. That would be excellent.

Oh man, I forgot about Halo 1.5 maps!

RCT Classic on mobile is pretty good too. It combines 1 and 2 together. The expansions are cheap too. I play it on my tablet at work.

  6. Hey, you're into restoring and maintaining old motherboards, right? Anything in particular that someone interested in the field should know? :) I've heard capacitors can be a pain to deal with

      Floofies

I like restoring old Apple hardware. The most common causes of death are electrolytic capacitors, clock batteries, and the environment.

At least in the old Macs, we have what is called an "M-Bomb" AKA a red Maxell brand battery. They don't just leak, but explode with fire. It's always important to remove those.

The niche I'm interested in is CRTs. It looks like capacitors are among the first components to go. No batteries to worry about, though.

I love how the image path in these things is totally analog, and they were designed to be replaceable. In theory you could puzzle out a circuit just by looking at it. I'm so used to CPUs and software lol.

  7. Ha, I was thinking to myself "who's the new user with the cool name?" and then I saw "theós to̱n astéro̱n" and knew it was you.

  8. Oh hey, long time no see!

  9. New post by Wait but Why! 1/3 Elon Musk fanboyism and 2/3 science, with a side of MS Paint.

  10. Quickbeam release, with in-memory reference swapping! Check it out

  11. Finally played my very own copy of the Halo 2 campaign, on an original Xbox. What a blast! I'd played it at friend's houses before, but never my very own copy.

Time to go back and beat it on legendary. And I still need to find the skulls!

  12. Supermoon tonight! Closest it's been in 70 years.

  14. Browser crashed and the post editor did not save my work, gg.

I should switch back to drafting all my posts in notepad, but then it's impossible to do stuff like quote boxes now that BBcode is deprecated/broken.

New strategy is to write everything in notepad, then manually create quote boxes when I copy it over to the post editor.

Extremely tedious, but I can't lose work this way. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Heh, I wish! The code was C++ so not something BSD'd be likely to use. Here's what he said:

BTW, I was just looking over some very nice C++ code with Paul yesterday, and we were saying: “Wow, this is really neat code” with utf16 fstreams, etc. and I just got curious to see who actually wrote the code, and it was you :) nice job!!! :)

How do I award discretionary tickets? I see some totals next to usernames... is that just how many are left to hand out? Looks like you've already dispensed two.

      WaeV

Heh. I actually didn't mind getting lots of Chinese ones because I can usually tell Mandarin, and Yue's vowels sound more European than the other ones.

India subcontinent languages always threw me off -- Marathi, Tamil, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali... Bengal! man, I've missed that one so many times.

If you owned a pencil sharpener in early 20th century Britain, you had a hot little piece of contraband. At the time, the supplies of the red cedar that had historically been used in pencils was getting perilously low, so the government briefly outlawed pencil sharpeners in order to limit waste from overzealous sharpening. Eventually the mechanical pencil and the discovery of incense-cedar's usefulness in making pencils solved this problem, and pencil sharpeners became street legal once a...
