I figured it was time for an official thread related to Windows 10 (I'm too lazy to find the other ones floating around that aren't in this section.)

 

So far, I am impressed. I was expecting another over-exaggerated release of Windows, but the upgrade went fairly smoothly and I haven't had any hiccups with anything as far as hardware is concerned. Virtual Desktops were about the only thing I was actually looking forward to in Windows 10 and it hasn't disappointed me. Best feature they've added to Windows in a long time (despite *nix DEs/WMs having it since the dawn of fucking time).

 

 

For those that upgraded and suspect you are lacking disk space in comparison to the previous install, read this tutorial on removing old Windows 7/8/8.1 installation files if you choose not to roll back.

It seriously took Microsoft long enough to catch on. Even Apple added virtual desktops to their operating system (known as Spaces) nearly 8 years ago.

anyone else try cortana yet? mine seems to have no voice, i'm pretty sure thats not supposed to be the case.

It's alright. It uses Bing and 90% of the time it takes your searches a little too literal and often times just brings up whatever it finds first, whether or not it's a legit source.

 

Edit: Also, Edge browser is pretty snappy despite the lack of support for certain media types (like webm) but it's fairly young in development, so hopefully that will change. Hopefully they will allow more intuitive extensions soon too.

I've been installing it on all of the PCs in my house and I haven't run into many issues thus far. The only issue I had to deal with was getting Windows 10 to recognize all of my monitors which was easy after installing the drivers and going into the Nvidia control panel for the GPU to recognize my third monitor.

The user interface is actually outstanding so far. I have no real complaints which is rare when I'm first starting out with an operating system. Even the upgrade process was easy once I used the media tool instead of using Windows Update to do it.

 

Edit: Oh God... Best feature of Windows 10 so far: Solitaire being supported by Xbox Live. Microsoft really is focusing on PC gamers again. Now even great uncle Marvin can get in on the action! Unlock those achievements, uncle Marvin!!!

I got Gamerscore in Minesweeper in Windows 8, and they even made Minesweeper FULL SCREEN. Pretty cool. I want my Space Cadet, though.
